CollabCAD is an extensive 2D and 3D CAD / CAM software system with collaborative capabilities built using various open source technologies like Java, Java 3D and Open Cascade Geometric Kernel.
CollabCAD offers a wide range of CAD tools including -
Drafting : Provides facilities to build and edit entities in virtual 3D space using basic geometry such as lines, arcs, and conic sections. The model-tree enables faster and easier editing.
Surface Modeling : Various surface types such as Ruled, B-Spline and Bezier can be utilized in the generation of complex surfaces.
Solid Modeling : Solid primitives such as Cones, Cylinders, Spheres and Boxes facilitate the construction of complex solids by various methods. Feature based part modeling capabilities such as extrusions, revolutions, etc. are also included for effective modeling.
Collaborative Design : CollabCAD can be used as a unique collaborative tool wherein several designers can access and work on a common workspace across a network. Collaborative design work is enabled with a set of communication tools including audio / video conferencing.
Database Connectivity : CollabCAD offers the facility to integrate standard tables and databases such as Standard Part Lists (SPL) and Tolerance Charts (Tolerance Manager). The user can attach properties from a database to geometric entities.
Scripting and Customization : CollabCAD adds an edge to its design package by enabling easy-to-use Jython scripting. The script file can be modified to achieve changes in the CAD model. Even the user-interface can be customized using the scripting according to individual preferences.
VRML Preview : With easily available plugins, models can be viewed on standard browsers like IE, Netscape, etc.
Data Exchange : Standard Data Exchange formats (like XML, STEP, IGES, VRML, STL, etc.) are supported by CollabCAD thereby reducing loss of data during translation.
Reverse Engineering : CollabCAD can be applied in the reverse engineering field since it allows for surface generation from point-clouds.
